Sports Injuries

If you play sports at any level or are indeed active on any level, consider yourself an athlete.

Participating in physically demanding activities such as running, sprinting, jumping or rotational activities like golf, cricket, fishing and shooting put stress on the muscles and soft tissue of the body, increasing the risk of sprains and strains.

Professional athletes are not the only ones who suffer from sports injuries. We’re all human and so can feel the effects of high-impact activities such as rugby, tennis, badminton, football, soccer and boxing.

Seeing a chiropractor, on the other hand, can help minimise and recover from injury by assessing for and correcting poor mechanics.

What is a Sports Injury?

Forceful hits/tackles, repetitive movements, overtraining and inadequate rest are some of the most common reasons why sports injuries occur. Athletes of all skill levels and ages can benefit from seeing a Chiropractor, since they can help relieve pain and recuperate faster after an injury.

Regular visits can help you recover faster after games and training sessions, as well as improve performance.

Chiropractors treat complaints of the neck, back, shoulder, knee, and ankle to name a few. Using a variety of techniques, not only involving the spine, we aim to improve function of the joint mechanics, preparing you to enjoy your sport for as long as possible!

What are the symptoms of sports injuries?

Symptoms of a sports injury can arise suddenly at the time of the incident or gradually over a few hours or days, sometime longer for repetitive strain injuries! Things to look out for include:

  • Pain (immediate and/or delayed)
  • Swelling
  • Stiffness
  • Instability
  • Weakness
  • Numbness and tingling
  • Redness
  • Confusion/Headache.

Sports injuries are commonplace, and most don’t require months of treatment. However, if your injury is not improving with basic treatment measures or is worsening despite your efforts, you should consult a skilled specialist or seek medical advice!

So how can a Chiropractor help?

Chiropractic care focuses on the entire body, not just the injury site. A spinal adjustment for example for a stiff neck would often be accompanied with assessing and if needed addressing the thoracic spine (mid-back), shoulder and upper limb as everything is connected!

We work very closely with our Massage Therapists too, in order to make sure we cover al the bases.

So, whether your one of our Olympians, professional athletes, or weekend park-runner, we know we can help you!
